Bent says Kieran Tierney will be desperate to join Arsenal this summer
Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Darren Bent has said that Celtic defender Kieran Tierney will be desperate to join Arsenal this summer. The Scotland international has already been the subject of a couple of bids from the Gunners, but so far, the Hoops have declined to do business with the north London giants.
Speaking to Football Insider, Bent suggested that Tierney will be eager to link up with the Gunners, considering he has the opportunity to succeed at a higher level in the Premier League, he quipped: “He’s desperate to leave Celtic and join Arsenal in the Premier League, I’m sure of that. He will want to show he can do it in the world’s biggest league and at a higher level.”
Since the start of the summer, the Gunners have been associated with a move for the left-sided defended but they have not managed to find the breakthrough with the Scottish champions. With just another week before the transfer deadline, they are certain to step up with the chase and it remains to be seen whether they can ultimately convince the Hoops to do business.
Unai Emery’s side have already failed with bids of around £15m and £25m for the defender and a third offer is expected to arrive during the forthcoming days. The Hoops’ main concern has come about from the structure of the deal and the Gunners may need to propose a decent transfer fee upfront to reach a transfer agreement.
Meanwhile, Tierney does not seem the only target before the transfer deadline, considering the Gunners are also aiming to strengthen the heart of the defence. Skipper Laurent Koscielny has already indicated that he wants to leave the club and the Frenchman’s reluctance to change the stance has meant that the club are actively looking to pursue a replacement.
