Del Piero Interested In Celtic FC
Alessandro Del Piero, the former Italy international, has hinted that he is interested in making a move to Celtic FC.
Piero played for the A-League club Sydney FC until the last season. At this point of time, he is a free agent. He is approaching 40 now, but, he is not willing to call it a day. He wants to keep playing at the professional level until his body supports him.
There were rumours of Piero being in touch with Celtic FC in the summer of 2012 as well, but, the deal had not got finalised between the two parties back then and the Italian forward ended up landing in Sydney.
Speaking in one of his interviews last week, Piero said, “A couple of years back, I was approached by them (Celtic), but, we couldn’t reach any conclusion. It was disappointing for me as I was really willing to go there.”
“I won’t mind giving it a thought if they get in touch with me again. They’re a fantastic club and I also like Scotland a lot. I’ve had a great time playing there in the past.”
Piero spent a huge part of his professional career playing for his boyhood club Juventus. He featured for the White-Blacks for almost 2 decades playing as many as 513 league games and scoring more than 200 league goals.
Piero’s performance was not bad in the A-League either. Playing for Sydney FC for a couple of years, he found the back of the net 24 times. He also skippered the team in the previous season.
As far as the Celts are concerned, they have made a couple of new signings this summer in the name of Craig Gordon (permanent signing) and Jo Inge Berget (loan signing). They might be signing couple of more guys before the transfer window closes, but, it seems unlikely that they would consider Piero given his age.
