Ryan Christie has penned a new long-term contract to keep him at Celtic until the summer of 2022. The 23-year-old started the ongoing campaign as a regular on the substitutes’ bench but an injury to Leigh Griffiths has enabled him to command a starting role starting after the previous international break.

During this period, he has contributed three goals and one assist in five appearances and the latter of those came during the Europa League game against RB Leipzig where he contributed towards Odsonne Edouard’s winner. As such, he has managed to extend his contract beyond the current campaign and speaking about the extension, he said:“I’ve started playing a little bit more, getting into the team and starting to make an impact.

“I think Celtic is the main club in my head that I want to continue playing for. It’s a delight for me to sign and keep playing for Celtic. It’s been good, I really enjoyed coming in and I’ve taken a lot of confidence from it. It’s probably helped my game. I’m looking to improve and there’s plenty more to come.”

“Christie joined the Hoops from Inverness Caledonian Thistle during the summer of 2015“ and he was swiftly loaned out to his hometown club for the first half of the 2015/16 season. On his recall, he could not make “much of an impact “and just one year later, he was loaned out to Aberdeen on an 18-month contract.

At Aberdeen, Christie managed to express himself with 15 goals from just 59 appearances and this appears to have finally turned the corner over his career with the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers’ side made a rather uncharacteristic to the season with a couple of league defeats but they have since gone on the right path. The Hoops are currently topping the standings on goal difference to Hearts with a game in hand.
