Celtic’s winter signing Oliver Burke is determined to make a strong impression with the Scottish champions in order to break into the national team. The 21-year-old already has five caps with the Scotland national side but none of those have come in the past 18 months where he has struggled for consistency and gametime.

Speaking to reporters, Burke highlighted that he would like to restore his place with Scotland and he is eager to make the most of his opportunity with the Glasgow giants, he said: "I am really eager. It is something I have my eyes set on and I really want to be back involved with it but we will see what happens.

"I have to perform and I have to show that I am capable of playing international first-team football. I am focused at club level. It is definitely a huge platform here. It is an amazing club and an amazing achievement for me. I feel privileged and proud to be wearing the jersey and to be stepping out there. It is an amazing feeling and I hope I can continue and keep giving my all."

However, in the past 18 months, he struggled to command a regular starting role with the west Midlands outfit and this ultimately urged him “to join the Hoops“ on a short-term loan at the start of 2019.

The move has already bore fruit with him scoring two goals from the past six matches but it remains to be seen whether he can perform with consistency to capture the eye of Scotland boss Alex McLeish. Meanwhile, Celtic are currently in a good position in the Scottish Premiership where they hold a six-point gap over Old Firm rivals Rangers at the top of the table.
